Waterproof Ratings - What
they really mean
There is some confusion as to what a waterproof rating
means. This should help expalin the differences
between the ratings. With our products, we carry
two types of connectors shown above: Zinc Alloy which
are IP68 Rated, and Plastic which are IP67 Rated.
IP 67: The first
number "6" means that it is completely protected against
solid object intrusion. This would include
particles such as dust. The second number "7"
means that it provides submersion into water up to 1
meter, for a period of 30 minutes. It's usefulness
is great for situations such as marine and boat
installations, tractors, law enforcement vehicles and
oil rigs.
IP 68: The first
number "6" means that it is completely protected against
solid object intrusion, which is the same as with the
above item. The second number "8" means that it
provides prolonged submersion in water beyond 1 meter.
